First Circular

 Dear Colleagues,

thank you for your abstract submission to the 4th ItaSEAS 2019 CONFERENCE.

We are glad to inform you that your abstracts have been accepted an that the response of Italian and foreign colleagues (including many from Southeast Asia) has been quite good - around 60 papers were selected for presentation. We are looking forward to a very rich, interesting and lively conference.

This is the first of a few circulars that will keep you updated regarding preparations for the fourth Conference on Southeast Asian Studies that will be held in Procida on May 22-24. 2019.

We are now moving to draft the conference programme. To give space to the many presentations most of the conference will be organized in parallel sessions according to three clusters: 1) Economic and political processes; 2) Social transformations; 3) Culture, Literature, Languages, and Linguistics.

The conference will start on 22 May at 15,00 and will last until midday of the 24 May.

On the conference website we have already provided a few recommended hotels and you can contact them directly by email to book your room (please remember to let them know that you will attend the ItaSEAS conference organized by the University of Naples L’Orientale).  Links on other hotels are also provided. We have also reserved rooms in a residence (i.e., sharing apartments with other conference participants) for those with a low budget – please reply to this list to find possible room-mates.

Check the following page:

Please note, as underlined in our website, that the conference venue is in Terra Murata on the top of the island and we will provide transport to and from the place from the various hotels. Procida is a small island and most of the hotels are located near, or at a walking distance from, the two main beaches (as indicated on our website). We will have a social dinner on the 23rd and there will be informal social events in the evenings of the 21st  and 22nd.

The conference fees are 70 euros and 35 euros for students and include: 2 buffet lunches, 4 coffee breaks and transport to and from the conference venue to the hotels. The social dinner will cost around 25 euros (TBC).

For those needing a visa please do ask us a formal letter of acceptance that can serve as a legal basis for the visa. Please note that Schengen visa requires long time to be processed – apply as soon as possible. If you need further assistance, please let us know.

As we are now organizing the conference panels we would appreciate if you could let us know as soon as possible if you will not be able to participate in the conference.

Please have a look at our conference website for details and reply to this email

Best regards,
