LM 14 – Italian Language And Culture For Foreigners

LM 14 – ITALIAN LANGUAGE AND CULTURE FOR FOREIGNERS

(Academic Degree – four semesters– 120 ECTS)

The University of Naples "L’Orientale" is offering a new programme aimed at promoting Italian language and culture among foreign people. The programme is intended for both Italian and foreign students. Italian students ― good knowledge of a foreign language is required ― will find a highly specialized programme for becoming teachers and promoters of the Italian language and culture in Italy and abroad. Foreign students will be offered the unique opportunity to study all aspects of Italian culture in an exceptional learning environment. "L’Orientale" of Naples was the first University in Europe to teach Oriental languages. Since its foundation in 1732 it has developed into one of the most renowned schools for Oriental, African and Western languages and cultures. A large number of formal agreements with European and non-European universities ― see http://www.unior.it/ateneo/3628/1/accordi-internazionali.html ― have been signed, and students from many countries follow study programmes at "L’Orientale". This means that foreign students can feel at home in Naples, since they will always find Italian colleagues able to speak their language and keen to practice it.
The new programme is divided into two curricula. The first one, "Italian Language, Art and Culture", provides a full knowledge of the Italian language and culture from different periods, while focusing particularly on art. The second one, "Italian Language, Literature and Culture", focuses on literary studies, and can thus be considered as an ideal follow up to a BA in Italian Studies. Both curricula exploit the unique artistic and historic heritage of Naples and its surroundings, where teaching and learning activities will also take place. The unique museums, monuments and libraries of the city, and exceptional nearby archaeological sites, such as Cumae, Pompeii, Herculaneum and many others, will be used as open-air classrooms, showcasing the "Italian legacy" at its best. An accurate and direct knowledge of the Italian artistic tradition will be useful for the Italian and foreign students who are looking for jobs as promoters of Italian culture in touristic and economic activities. "L’Orientale" also organizes workshops and training internships together with companies and organizations that actively promote the Italian heritage.

Access requirements
Access to the course is open to applicants with BA degrees, and (a minimum of) upper intermediate level Italian (B2 level of the CEFR).
