Umberto Scerrato Oriental Museum
Thanks to its long tradition of extensive archaeological research, the University of Naples “L’Orientale” opened the "Umberto Scerrato" Museum in 2012. The museum exhibits archaeological collections from Asia and Africa but, above all, performs an educational function. It is also open to the public, however, and offers guided tours for schools and interested visitors.
The University has four historic buildings (bound pursuant to Legislative Decree 42/2004), for which it provides for annual maintenance. Of particular prestige and interest is Palazzo Corigliano, in Piazza San Domenico Maggiore. The building can be visited upon request or during the “Maggio dei monumenti” event promoted annually by the Municipality of Naples.
The historical buildings of the University are described, in Italian and English, in M. Fatica, Sedi e Palazzi dell’Università degli Studi di Napoli L’Orientale (1729-2005), Napoli, L’Orientale 2006.
