
The aim of the project is to stimulate the Polish language movement in Italian academic education and to make the glottodidactic curriculum more attractive. An important aim of the project is to spread knowledge of Polish culture in the area of contemporary urban culture, which remains an area of genuine interest for young people today. The Polish language teaching proposed in the project is oriented towards practical communication in a selected urban/agglomeration sociolect. We propose to the Italian students and lecturers to participate in the everyday life of the city as a linguistic/civilisational space, to familiarise themselves with the culture by participating in customs, habits and artistic activities. Despite the great tradition of Polish studies in Italy, including at the Università di Napoli L'Orientale, one can observe a regression in recent years in the field of Polish studies education of Italian youth. This is a worrying phenomenon especially in the context of the development of other philologies at Il Dipartimento di Studi Letterari, Linguistici e Comparati. We have therefore decided to persuade a group of students in the aforementioned Department to participate in linguistic education through workshop activities and the concept of language immersion. Indeed, the educational paradigm known as learning by doing plays an important role in the teaching of a foreign language. The project proposal is to engage Italian students in exploring the layers of an urban language - urbslingua. As linguistic material, we have chosen a linguistic meta-space in which students from both universities and cities are immersed. Our aim is also to develop a model for further cooperation between the Universities to deepen mutual relations, translating the experience into joint international partnership projects. The realisation of the ‘ The urban language(s) - Łódź- Neapolitan sociolects’ project is taking place in two key segments: in Naples and in Łódź. The core project activities focus on the organisation of two visits - first to the Partner's university and then to the Applicant's premises. During the visit to Naples, in which lecturers from Poland will participate, we have planned:
1. a theoretical-linguistic seminar on the issues of the language of the city, glottodidactics and the condition of Italian Polish Studies. The seminar will consist of six lectures
addressed to the students and lecturers of L'Orientale University.
2. a meeting of the research and teaching staff of both universities, during which we will discuss prospects for the development of Polish Studies at the Italian partner
university, present innovations in Polish Studies education implemented both at the AHE in Łódź and from the perspective of the whole Polish Studies in the country.
3. two workshops: a) a moodboard workshop "Support Polish literature"; b) a field-linguistic workshop in the urban space of Naples.
In the second segment, we designed a visit to Łódź by the Partner's students and lecturers. The urban space and tradition of Łódź will be a natural space for the realisation
of project activities. The ‘Polish Manchester’ will host workshop and inter-media events. This will make it possible to better explain certain cultural phenomena and
mechanisms and their applications in Polish. In our assumptions, the use of means derived from the concept of edutaitment significantly supports the effectiveness of
language education, especially in the context of certain features of Italian culture - sensual and highly visualised.
Starting from such assumptions, a programme was prepared for Italian students, including:
1. urban workshops based on the flipped classroom methodology (city - word - semantics).
2. labour languages - workshops held at the Central Museum of Textiles in Łódź
3. film Łódź - film as one of the languages of the city - workshop conducted at the Film School in Łódź
4. the language of the palate - Łódź (and multicultural) dishes - language and culinary workshops
5. comic games with language - workshops held at the Centre for Comics and Interactive Narration
6. fans and tifosi - affinities not only linguistic - workshops on ‘futbolinguistics’ conducted at the Widzew Łódź stadium
7. recording of a podcast in the Arterion Film Studio to promote the project - with the participation of Italian and Polish students.
The project activities will result in broadening the linguistic awareness of students from the partner university, their knowledge of Polish culture, and an increase in the
importance of modern teaching methods in the didactics of the Polish language. As a result of the project, didactic and scientific cooperation between the two universities
will be strengthened, which will be reflected in further joint undertakings: co-organisation of conferences and seminars, in-class and on-line guest lectures, and mutual
mobility of students and lecturers.
