Constructing an Excellent Chinese Culture for the World

One of the distinguishing features of Xi Jinping's New Era has been revamping the role of ideology in China's domestic and transnational governance. Dubbed “Xi Jinping's important thought on socialism with Chinese characteristics in the New Era”, the post-2017 ideological consensus is underpinned by renewed narratives of history and culture that cut across institutional clusters and seep through borders. These ideological rewritings have the goal to legitimize China’s ascent to a global power through appeals to – among others – cultural tradition.
China studies have yet to fully investigate the relation between cultural policy, cultural representations and their dissemination.
