La dott.ssa Veruschka Wagner, ricercatrice presso l’Università di Bonn, terrà una conferenza all’interno della CSACTI Lecture Series sul tema “Fashion, Women, and Gender Roles in Late Ottoman Caricatures”.
Abstract:
This lecture deals with Ottoman caricatures of Istanbul women in the 1920s. In a time of extensive transformations, modernization and emancipation brought with them innovations and changes that were perceived and judged differently. Caricaturists from various satirical magazines took up these social processes and developments and dealt with them intensively. Alongside many other caricatures, there are therefore numerous illustrations of women that provide material for following and researching historical debates.
