To be admitted to the Master's Degree Course in Asian and African Relations and Institutions, you must have:
- a degree under the old or new system; or
- a degree obtained abroad, recognized as equivalent.
A special committee will evaluate the suitability of each candidate's curriculum, taking into account their degree, any other certified educational activities, and personal preparation.
Among the criteria for curriculum suitability, the acquisition of at least 8 credits (or equivalent certifications) in each of the following areas must be documented:
- legal field: IUS/01, IUS/08, IUS/09, IUS/13, IUS/14, IUS/21
- economic field: SECS-P/01, SECS-P/02, SECS-P/03, SECS-P/06
- historical-political field: M-STO/02, M-STO/04, SECS-P/12, SPS/02, SPS/04, SPS/06
- social sciences: M-DEA/01, M-GGR/01, M-GGR/02, SPS/07, SPS/08, SPS/09
Candidates must demonstrate, through appropriate certification, adequate written and oral knowledge of an Asian or African language.
- Languages with advanced access only: Japanese, Chinese, Korean, and Arabic
- Access to the advanced course for all curricula (“Asia,” “Africa,” “Middle East and North Africa”): at least 20 credits in an Asian or African language (SSD: L-OR/07, L-OR/08, L-OR/09, L-OR/12, L-OR/13, L-OR/15, L-OR/18, L-OR/19, L-OR/21, L-OR/22)
- Basic language study: for justified reasons, assessed by the Admissions Committee, it is possible to undertake the study of an Asian or African language at a basic level, provided that it contributes to the student's education and to the achievement of adequate preparation in the history and institutions of a specific area.
- “Asia” curriculum: knowledge of English proven by at least 8 credits in the first-level course or B2 language certification or higher (CEFR).
- Africa curriculum: knowledge of English, or possibly French or Portuguese, proven by at least 8 credits in the first level course or B2 or higher language certification (CEFR).
Before enrollment, candidates must demonstrate adequate preparation in both the linguistic-regional area and the four subject areas indicated above.
In the event of a deficiency in one or more areas, candidates must take supplementary interviews.
In the event of a partial lack of credits in Asian or African languages, the Admissions Committee may:
- evaluate language certifications obtained in the chosen language;
- recognize credits acquired through individual courses aimed at filling any gaps.
The Committee reserves the right to evaluate the candidate's overall curriculum.
Admission procedures
To enroll in the course, you must follow an online procedure that takes place in several stages. It all starts with the submission of the application, followed by the evaluation of the curriculum vitae by a Commission. Based on the outcome, candidates may be called for an orientation or assessment interview. Each step is explained in detail in the paragraphs below.
For those who need to brush up on some basic knowledge, free supplementary courses are also available.

Please note: the form will not be accessible during the following periods: between the application deadline and the publication of the results (e.g., June 30–July 4, September 16–23, October 14–21, November 28–December 5).
When filling out the form, you will be asked to upload the following documentation to a OneDrive folder in a single PDF file renamed with your “Last Name and First Name” (e.g., Rossi Mario):
- completed and signed application form;
- certificate or self-certification of bachelor's degree with details of exams taken and degree grade;
- language certification, if applicable;
- copy of a valid identification document.
Please note: after uploading the PDF file to the OneDrive folder, you must return to the form and press SUBMIT.

Applications will be examined by a special committee, which will assess the suitability of each candidate's curriculum vitae according to the criteria indicated. The assessment reports (link at the bottom of the page) will be published by the dates indicated in the Admissions Calendar.
Candidates whose resumes are deemed suitable must register by filling out the form at FORM (active from the day the results are published until one week before the interviews) on the dates indicated in the Admissions Calendar. The orientation and formal admission interview will focus on the educational path taken during the three-year degree program, as well as the choice of curriculum and language.
Please note: before booking the interview, you must wait for the outcome of the curriculum evaluation.
Candidates whose CVs are deemed unsuitable due to a lack of credits in one or more subject areas must:
- acquire the missing basic knowledge according to a study program based on the recommended bibliography;
- register via the FORM for an interview to assess your preparation, which will be open from the day the results are published until one week before the interviews, on the dates indicated in the Admissions Calendar;
- obtain a positive evaluation from the Commission at the interview, which will allow you to enroll in the master's degree program.
Please note: both graduates and undergraduates can participate in the interviews.

Please note: language skills must already be possessed and documented through exams or other certifications.
The admission procedure described above also applies to:
- students requesting a shortened degree program;
- students requesting a transfer from other universities or a change from another degree program.
