Course Overview
The Italian second-cycle degree program in Comparative Literatures and Cultures is a two-year program in Degree Class LM-37 – Modern European and American Languages and Literatures.
To obtain the degree, students must earn 120 ECTS credits
The program is structured into three curricula:
1. West–East
2. European
3. Comparative Literature: English, Italian, Chinese
The Italian second-cycle degree in Comparative Literatures and Cultures is designed to prepare graduates for high-responsibility roles in both public and private institutions engaged in national and international cultural activities, and in the promotion of Italian literary, linguistic, and cultural heritage abroad.
Graduates will also be qualified to work in business and commercial consultancy, in Italian institutions abroad, in international cooperation and NGOs, and in the global organization of cultural initiatives. More broadly, they will be prepared for all professional contexts requiring an advanced knowledge not only of foreign languages but also of the societies and cultural heritage of other countries.
The program provides specific training in intercultural comparison, communication, and exchange, preparing graduates to operate effectively in Italian and international contexts.

Il percorso formativo si articola in quattro aree principali:

- Insegnamenti di ambito comparatistico, filologico, filosofico, glottologico e traduttologico
- Insegnamenti storico-culturali areali
- Insegnamenti di ambito storico, geografico e sociale dell’area linguistico-culturale di riferimento
Il nostro programma offre tre curricula distinti:
- Il curriculum Occidente-Oriente ha come obiettivo la conoscenza approfondita di due lingue, letterature e culture straniere, una dell’Europa o delle Americhe, l’altra dell’Asia o dell’Africa.
- Il curriculum Europeo ha come obiettivo la conoscenza approfondita di due lingue, letterature e culture straniere, entrambe dell’Europa o delle Americhe.
- Il curriculum Comparative Literature: English, Italian, Chinese ha come obiettivo la conoscenza approfondita della lingua inglese e delle letterature in lingua inglese così come della lingua, letteratura e cultura italiana; inoltre, offre la possibilità di proseguire a livello avanzato lo studio della lingua, letteratura e cultura cinese.
Requirements and access procedures
To join the Degree Course in Comparative Literatures and Cultures, applicants must hold a degree consistent with the international relations field, under the old or new system, or an equivalent qualification obtained abroad. A dedicated committee evaluates each candidate’s curriculum, considering their degree, certified educational and language experience, and preparation in relevant fields such as law, economics, history, politics, and social studies.
