European and American Languages and Literatures

The programme provides advanced training in European languages, literatures and cultures. It develops linguistic, philological and critical skills; strengthens textual analysis; and connects literary studies to historical processes, globalisation and the media. The Literary Translation curriculum explores translation theory, literary Italian and Digital humanities, equipping students with the tools to apply technology to humanistic knowledge.

The programme integrates linguistic, literary and cultural disciplines with historical, anthropological, geographical and philosophical contributions. The literary translation curriculum includes translation exercises, Italian literature studies, and a Digital Humanities workshop, which teaches participants how to use IT tools for humanities and translation activities.

The programme offers two curricula.
>Languages, Literatures and Cultures: This programme offers advanced study of a language and literature, with options including French, Spanish, Portuguese, English, German, Swedish, Dutch, Anglo-American and Hispanic-American. The programme focuses on linguistic hybridity and historical and cultural contexts.
>Literary Translation: allows students to refine their knowledge of European languages and offers two programmes. The monolingual programme covers French, Spanish, English or German. The bilingual programme combines a first language (Portuguese, Swedish, Dutch, Albanian, Hungarian, Polish, Serbo-Croatian or Russian) with a second language chosen from those available for the academic year.

The programme trains specialists in the fields of linguistics, literature, and documentation. Graduates can pursue careers as translators, editorial consultants and language professionals in cultural institutions, the media, publishing, diplomatic representation and the cultural third sector.
The programme covers advanced critical commentary, philological analysis and comparative practices. Potential employers include public and private institutions, Italian and foreign cultural institutions, publishing agencies, training institutions, international organisations and intercultural mediation organisations. Students may also pursue teaching positions if they meet the requirements set out in current legislation.
