The Second-cycle Degree in Specialized Translation (MTS) is a two-year program belonging to the LM-94 degree class – Specialized Translation and Interpreting. It is designed to train highly qualified professionals in two strategic areas:
- the specialized translation of texts in technical, scientific, economic, and cultural fields;
- language consultancy, with a strong focus on digital technologies and computational skills applied to language services.
The program is part of the prestigious EMT – European Master’s in Translation network (2024–2029), coordinated by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Translation, ensuring high-quality training in line with international standards in the field.

Career Profiles
Depending on the chosen curriculum, the program prepares:
- Specialized translators with advanced skills in two foreign languages chosen from English, French, German, Spanish, Russian, and Arabic;
- Language consultants with advanced skills in one foreign language, capable of managing complex projects and technologies for linguistic and multilingual services.
Skills Acquired
The curriculum combines theoretical knowledge and practical skills, aiming to:
- translate specialized texts in various professional fields;
- use tools for machine translation, computer-assisted translation, corpora, and terminological databases;
- analyze texts from linguistic, stylistic, and intercultural perspectives;
- provide qualified language consultancy on the use of language and translation technologies in publishing, journalism, and corporate contexts;
- manage and assess multilingual translation projects using advanced technological tools;
- strengthen soft skills essential for entering the job market.
Graduates will be able to work in public bodies, European institutions, companies, translation agencies, editorial offices, and publishing houses, or continue their studies at the doctoral level in translation, linguistics, and foreign languages.
Learning Activities
The renewed study plan combines theoretical courses, practical workshops, and internships. Depending on the chosen curriculum, it includes:
theoretical activities:
- advanced language study in the chosen languages, including micro-languages;
- courses on theories and techniques of specialized translation, translation technologies and new translation processes, language technologies, multilingual lexicology and lexicography;
- study of intercultural and transcultural dynamics related to translation processes;
- courses in AI law and ethics, European economic policy, and social media marketing.
Technical and practical activities:
- professional workshops in computer-assisted translation and revision;
- use of advanced translation technologies: machine translation, CAT tools, electronic corpora, digital dictionaries, databases;
- focus on computational skills and the potential of generative artificial intelligence;
- internships with institutions, companies, and agencies in the language and communication sector.
The program promotes an up-to-date, interdisciplinary education capable of keeping pace with the transformations in the translation and language services sector in the digital era.
Tipologia di attività didattiche
Il piano di studi, completamente rinnovato, combina insegnamenti teorici, laboratori pratici e tirocini formativi e prevede a seconda del curriculum scelto:
Attività teoriche:
- Approfondimenti linguistici nelle lingue di studio, anche nelle loro varietà settoriali
- Insegnamenti su teorie e tecniche della traduzione specialistica, tecnologie e nuovi processi di traduzione, tecnologie linguistiche, lessicologia e lessicografia multilingue
- Studio delle dinamiche interculturali e transculturali legate ai processi traduttivi
- Corsi su diritto ed etica dell’intelligenza artificiale, politica economica europea, social media marketing.
Attività tecnico-pratiche:
- Laboratori professionalizzanti su traduzione assistita e revisione
- Utilizzo di tecnolgie avanzate per la traduzione: traduzione automatica, CAT tools, corpora elettronici, dizionari digitali, banche dati
- Focus su competenze computazionali e sulle potenzialità dell’intelligenza artificiale generativa
- Tirocini formativi presso enti, aziende e agenzie del settore linguistico e della comunicazione
Il corso promuove una formazione aggiornata e interdisciplinare, in grado di accompagnare le trasformazioni del settore della traduzione e dei servizi linguistici nell’era digitale.
Requirements and access procedures
To join the Degree Course in Asian and African Relations and Institutions, applicants must hold a degree consistent with the international relations field, under the old or new system, or an equivalent qualification obtained abroad. A dedicated committee evaluates each candidate’s curriculum, considering their degree, certified educational and language experience, and preparation in relevant fields such as law, economics, history, politics, and social studies.
